Streamlined Vulnerability Management @ ODU Using Rapid7 Nexpose

Prior to Summer 2016 ODU's vulnerability management for servers and network equipment was based on a manual process which lacked any automation and thus (1) required a significant investment of engineering hours and (2) did not meet the Information Technology Departments’ goals in terms of speed and effectiveness of the vulnerability remediation process. In Summer 2016 ODU went through a thorough analysis of current Vulnerability Management Solutions to select Rapid7’s Nexpose as a platform to expand upon and meet the University’s needs for network device vulnerability assessment and management. In the end of Summer 2016, we designed a new streamlined process for assessing, prioritizing, and remediating security vulnerabilities while thoroughly recording every step of the way. We significantly reduced the time and efforts required to complete our regular analysis, while also improved the efficacy and significantly improved the security posture of ITS servers and network devices.
